3rd Sisterlock Birthday

Celebrated my 3rd Sisterlock Birhtday on October 5, 2011. I have researched many of my family photos and found out that my Aunt Betty has always been in natural hairstyles and I didnt start when she did but she have defnitely set the tone. I am glad that I chose Sisterlocks and I am the only family member with Sisterlocks. However, many of our close family members are with natural hairstyles and I am excited and proud. The freedom has never felt better and I am contantly getting compliments which really make me feel great. I have a few friends, a co worker and spiritual Sister that have Sisterlocks and I am glad I could be an example. I chose October 5 to get Sisterlocks and it is two days after my Mom's birthdate and she would have turned 68 had she not gone home to glory.

Celebrated my Birthday the same day the MLK monument was to be unveiled. Due to Hurricane Irene, the ceremony was postponed. Feeling happy to know that my Parents became parents that day with my birth, August 28,1963. Yesterday celebrated Hubby Birthday and surprised him and put on favorite dress and went to dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Batiste and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas. Could not end this month without giving a praise report on my health and how I changed a few habits and done it slowly and at my pace versus someone else's judgment. This is truly a blessing and it is so important to not judge the book by its cover. Sisterlocks have changed my life so much and it is a lifestyle i knew some day would come especially wearing braid extentions for years.

Had an experience in Tulsa Ok on July 7, 2011. Was in line at the Mcdonalds waiting for restroom when the lady behind me touches my hair and says "Those things are tiny" . Still enjoying my Sisterlocks. Here I am on Vacation in Emporia Virginia at my Husband family reunion and I meet a new Sisterlock Sister and enjoyed the conversation with her. I am saying natural hair is such a blessing. I still cant get over how beautiful my Sister looks with her two strand twist when she married a few weeks ago. .Sisters if you reading this continue to tell the Sisters how beautiful they look with their natural hair. It will bring some great conversations. I had to post this new Sisterlock Sister because it is amazing how each person hair look so different. NOTE: It was so hot that day and as you can see it was in the wood area and the mosquitos really enjoyed me and welcomed me in.

Anniversary Dinner

Celebrating our 29th Anniversary. This month we were able to go out several times to celebrate but most important was Monday, April 18, 2011 and I asked Hubby to get ready for once and that I was taking him to Benihanas and he came to the door smelling loud but of course with one of Mary Kay's finest cologne's Domain and his three piece suit. I felt so special to know that he still gets excited and wanted to make sure he impress me for dinner. I also decided to put my hair in an updo and to look nice as well for dinner. Nothing like being on a date and not having to worry about a babysitter since we have two adult sons and a pre-teen. Sister and her fiance are here and she feels that she crashed our dinner but I dont feel that way. She and my other Sister Rita can crash my anything. I want to say it was a awesome feeling to be able to put my hair in an up-do and also this month, I have now had my Sisterlocks for 2.5 years.

Keeping me Humble

Keeping God first and balancing family, work, church, union and my fraternal organization is what keeps me humble and I must admit I was not always there. Receiving this first award with my Sisterlocks as Civilian of the Quarter is the first and I feel honored. Sisterlocks In Three Seasons

This is the first time my Sisterlocks have been snowed on and the most faaaaaaaaaaaaabulous things is that my hair never changed it still looked beautiful. What hairstyle in the world can you enjoy this much and be able to be versatile enough to go through three seasons in just a matter of a few days, summer, spring, and winter. I am standing outside the market in St Louis Missouri where I was a chaperone with a group of 7 children, which included 2 boys and 5 girls. Of course I was assigned to the boys. We were in St Louis for the NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers Conference).

Celebrating Black History Month on Sunday, February 27, 2010. It is so good to know that Carter G. Woodson is responsible for us celebrating Black History Month. It is also the birthday month of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas. It is good to know that we can celebrate daily and I try to encourage my family and others to do just that. I am proud to let my hair hang free to show fullness and length without wrapping my hair with the scarf that is hanging around my neck. NOTE:: I am standing next to Carter G. Showing off my co-workers precious little baby and also showing off my Sisterlocks. I cant thank my bff enough for encouraging me to change my hairstyle and it changed my lifestyle. I am managing my health with exercise and diet and keeping my mandatory test within a normal range. I am walking 30 minutes a day with my new tone-up shoes by LA Gear that my Hubby purchased for my Washington DC trip. Here my hair was cleansed with the No Poo by Deva Curl and it looks like I rolled it but did not. I have a close spiritual sister who is thinking about Sisterlocks and I am so excited for her new freedom as well. NOTE: Glad this little fella is sleeping because babies normally do not agree with me. Not sure why, hmmmmmmmm!

Mom and Son Again

Mom and Son again. This is my youngest and I had to share with you that he is loving my hair too. At first he goes Mom why did you change your hair like that but as the transformation begin, Robert would then go Mom I like you hair or Mom your hair look nice. Now coming from a young man who is in Middle School that is impressive. I will say that I have had to still play around with moisturizes. I dont like the moisturizes after I "No Poo" my hair but I do have these in my cabinet and that is Carols Daughter which is a woodsy fragrance then the original Sisterlock Spray and I must say I have less residue with the Sisterlock Spray and the fragrance is nicer.

This son here, Rashaad which is Son #2 likes to play with my Sisterlocks and I have to say Sistahs, my husband and I will be married 29 years in a few months and he has never had his fingers run through my hair the way he has with the Sisterlocks. New Years Eve, wow what a beautiful evening that we had. Had no ideal that we would lose one of our family but life is a beautiful thing and we must understand that God make no mistakes. I will continue to have evenings as such and continue to look to the hills for peace and understanding. In this photo I had left the shop 30 minutes earlier where I sat to get my hair re-tightened. You can look at my face and tell the happiness that my mind, body, soul is experiencing. This is one of my natural looks although I am a Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay products, I am not wearing any make-up. I learned from Son #2, Rashaad how to snap my own photos, wow, what your College Children will teach you. After 2 years I am not able to explain in words what I am feeling about the step that not many dare to take. Liberatation is a new one I have to add to this Sisterlock Blog. I had a friend to hit me up on facebook and after watching me for 2 years she thinks she is ready. I watched my bff for 3 years so I truly understand. I am so thankful that my bff encouraged me to take this journey and I plan to encourage this friend also. My Sister and cousin is wearing the two strand twist. My Aunt is wearing a natural. Another Aunt had locs over 10 years. What a family affair this is becoming to be natural.

My Hubby shocked me on Saturday. I had to hurry and get ready and I go "where are we going. " Hubby goes just hurry because we have reservations. I had been at meetings all day and was moving slow but was excited at the same time. I said hey after 28 years I could go on to my meeting and he would be waiting. Well after I am dressed here with my black halter dress. My glitter everywhere. I was excited to put clip in my hair have updo for the night and my sisterlocks have really matured. Well we are riding along the coast and I am thinking are we going to Santa Monica and Hubby said "no." We arrived at the Chart House and I started screaming, I said "oh Honey, you are taking me to the Chart House," and he goes we are in Malibu. We have never celebrated our Anniversary in Malibu. The Chart House nearly brought me to tears, the last time I ate at the Chart House was in San Juan Capistrano on a Business Trip to San Diego and my Mom was able to join me. My smile even this morning on a Monday is from Los Angeles, California to Toronto, Canada. I feel so blessed to have him for my husband of 28 years and when he told me he pray that we grow old together I was just speechless.

Eighteen Month Birthday

Sisterlocks at 18 months (1 year and half). I am truly so proud of the thickness I am experiencing with my Sisterlocks. I am getting a few comments such as wow it looks good I didnt like it initially. My response is really, wel I Lovvvvvvvvvvvve my Sisterlocks and from the beginning. I am using virgin olive oil as well and using the Sea Breeze to clean scalp when my hair seems to need it. Not too sure about the Carol's Daughter, it seems okay but I am still monitoring to see if there is an ingredient in the product that is making my scalp flaky. I am looking forward to my 2 years Anniversary on October 5, 2010.

Receiving recognition, my Husband and I for being married 27 years. We were certainly excited and in less than 30 days we will hit our 28th anniversary. We were on program with Councilman Bernard Parks and received the Pioneer Award along with Congresswoman Maxine Waters and her Husband. We are thankful to Dr and Mrs. LaGrande Mason and the Black Marriage Day Committee for this special recognition. Note: I received compliments throughout the ceremony on my Sisterlocks and being that this event was held at the African American Museum on third floor of Macy's I was really proud of my journey.

Wonderful spirit filled day as Utopia Celebrated their 58th Anniversary at New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, the Church Home for myself, Bro Manning, Sis Lillie Pruitt, Sis Dees, Sis Ell and Sis Armanda Pruitt. Our new Worthy Matron looked great and this was my first time out as a new Past Matron and that is why I am dressed different from the other Sisters in the photo. We have two new Sisters in the photo wearing gold and blue sash. I must admit that my Sisterlocks looked great under the Past Matron crown.

My Sisterlocks are coming along. At 17 months they are now forming and making me proud. In this photo, I am wearing it freestyle and had returned from Washington DC the night before. The freedom is awesome. The weather in Washington DC required head covering and I used a knit cap and was able to just shake my hair into place for the various meetings I attended. I am using Carol's Daughter (Khomen Amen Leave-In Conditioner) that I was blessed with from my new fraternal Sisters. I also was introducted to the Cold Compress Olive Oil for the days that I may have extreme dryness. However now that I have increased my water intake, the scalp that was once so dry is not so dry anymore. Also I am using "No Poo" instead of regular shampoo. My Sisterlocks seem to appreciate these new products.

I almost decided to get a grooming and just learned what a grooming was from another follower on here. My loctician examined my hair and the grooming is not needed and that made my day.

In this photo I was in attendance with my Hubby at a Shriner's Ball and Banquet. Also in Washington DC I was able to go to the Masonic Temple in Alexandria Virginia. I now know what the Burgundy Fez and Black Tassel represent and Hubby is wearing it in this photo.

What a wonderful time I had with my Men, oh how excited it was to have them all together at the same time. My Sisterlocks were excited as well being that I have had them for 15 months. I am sure miss Son #2 (gray vest) but I told him dont worry being in Arkansas for school is an investment and soon that time will pass. Son #1 (gray tshirt) you see where he is standing and he takes good care of me and of course I am not saying this only because of my Delta benefits. Son #3 (brown shirt) is a ham as usual. My King showed out yesterday as he and the Men chorus showed out and of course I was in church all day to support him. He and I are talking about how it will be when it is just him and I which will be bitter sweet we will get to spend time on ourselves.

I went to work looking like this, it was cute, I was a waitress with my white blouse and denim skirt underneath my frog apron and chef hat. Also last night Gloria hosted the annual pumpkin carving I used to host. Robert is really enjoying and I am retired now officially from carving the pumpkins but not from taking photos.

10th Month Sisterlock Birthday

This picture was taken on August 7th and my 10th month Sisterlock Birthday was on August 5th. I cant believe it has almost been a year and I am loving it. I ran into one of my Sister Gloria's classmate and he had brotherlocks and they looks so so good. The classmate of my sister was like who does your hair and his was banging and I said Karen and he goes she does mine and been doing them for 6 years. I am so thankful to have them and I love how they are maturing. Thank you Karen for hooking me up. Hey the photo is with no style, it was re-tightened and I couldnt believe the lenght.

After arriving to work with cupcakes for my coworkers to celebrate my 25th anniversary of working with the federal government (civil service), my office was decorated with star balloons, confetti, streamers, and signs. What a special way to start and end your day. My coworkers were like here you are showing up to work with something for us, they felt it was an unselfished act.

50th Birthday Party for Hubby (more photos coming this weekend)

It was a wonderful party. My hubby, Richard became emotional throughout the night and dont fool yourself, it was tears of joy. This is what we wanted because that night it was all about him and he needed to know this.

His biggest surprise of the night was Uncle Junie, who flew in from Oakland California. Uncle Junie is his mother's brother and although she was unable to fly in from New York, his Uncle represented well and gave a toast.

Also cousins, Joe and Pearl came in from Las Vegas and it was also a special. Joe felt special being he represented my Dad. Joe also gave a toast to Richard that night and it was special.

My sisters Gloria and Rita decorated and they did a marvelous job on the centerpieces, they had baseball caps with a balloons (green and white) tied to the back of the cap. The 50 confetti was not allowed but we had it on the table anyway.

My sister Gloria and I was the MC's for the evening. We played the 1959 Timeline Game. The guest had to guest what the prices of 1959 were to include bread, cost of living, average wages and movie tickets. Lots of fun and laugther. Anytime you have any event you must have laughter and we did and Richard was proud.

Richard had a good crowd, Sony co-workers, my aunts/uncle, church family, 10th Avenue neighbor, masonic family and special friends of mine. My aunts/uncle represented my Mom and I know they have our back when there is event and for that I am very very proud.

The menu included chicken from the restaurant where my Mom worked for 19 years. Chicken, potato salad and mixed vegetable with the rolls. I made punch and some said it was good and some said it was too sweet but it was fun anyhow.

My aunts/uncle cant wait for a party to dance and they be grooving do you heaaaaaaaar me!!!!! Also my cousin Michael and cousin Mary.

Blast to the Past - Dinah's Restaurant

Blast to the Past is held the very last Tuesday of each July. Dinah's Restaurant located on the corner of Centinela and Sepulveda is where I Precious Mom worked and she never hesitated making sure that we would attend. Also she would get her Oldest Grandson, Richard III to work and he has been from a Beverage Person to a Chicken. If you are ever in there, take a look at the book located at the cash register, and you will see a picture of her and Richard III. I thought we would not be able to attend, but we all, my Sister's and I made a decision to return and we had a ball. It was great seeing the old co-works also.

The prices of the food at the Blast to the Past are back to the year 1959, a chicken plate was $1.60, hamburger $0.15 and a drink $0.15. All five of us, Hubby and Sons, ate for $7.63 and you cant beat that.

Robert adoptive Pets

The first photo, Robert is holding a Pomeranian (mispelled I think) and he belong to my new neighbor who is also soon to be my new Fraternal Sister and also she has Sisterlocks. I feel it was a blessing to meet her and it was divine that we (Gloria and I) met her.

The rest of the photos is the puppies of my co-worker but they now have been adopted out and they are Bijon Freeze (mispelled I think), they are cute and even I held one of them and this will shock my bff. I think they are so precious and it is weird for some reason I am getting close to Robert having a pet well in the future I would say but we must see how things go.

Las Vegas was awesome! My Fraternal and Biological Sister - Sis Dees won the Queen for the Federation of the Eastern Stars. We are so proud of her. Also Bro Edmond is the Noble of the Year and again California took that title. I am so thankful that we left the family behind and everything worked out, normally, Sis Dees or Bro Manning stays behind never do the three of us be gone at the same time. Bro Mitchell and Bro Manning had a ball they were out one night and we were out the next however, when it was time for the Potentae Ball we were ready to dress up. It was fun partying with Michigan, Texas, Mississippi, and New Jersey.

Hubby and I celebrated our 27th Wedding Anniversary in Hollywood with Sister Gloria, brother-in - law Anthony and my good friend Brenda. Brenda thank you for introducing me to http://www.goldstar.com/ and showing us how to have fun again. Hubby and I spent the entire day together before going to the play. Having three sons we really do not get many days alone and we certainly took advantage. My first stop was to stop and buy a sexy dress to wear for the evening and then we were able to go to breakfast and pedicure/manicure. Later that evening we went to see Barbara Morrison in the play Howlin Blues and Dirty Dogs. Please spread the word, the nurses aids from my churrch and I are going as a group in May before it ends on May 17, 2009. Hubby had never been to the California Pizza Kitchen and that is where we hung out and then cruised Hollywood, can you imagine being married 27 years and still having fun cruising. With the Sisterlocks I didn't have to worry about sitting in a beauty shop an entire day to get beautiful, I was already there. Hollywood is usually a place we go to only when we have out of town guest but hey we decided to jump out of our comfort zone and sightsee. In one of the photos I was pointing at Sean Puffy Combs. A few other stars I saw was Forrest Whittaker and Jackie Chan.

This is my goddaughter and she is looking beautiful here in her black and white. Her Mom one of my Best Friends Forever dresses her really cute. I only regret I do not live closer but I do see her and communicate with her enough that she knows I am her god mom. I am thankful her parents allowed me to share that special moment and it is so cool I grew up with her Mom and Dad in Missouri. Also Kyliece has two older brothers and they are my god children as well they are growing up so fast. One of the brothers are in the photo above and I have to add the oldest one soon, which he will be going to the prom.

As you can see we are still enjoying our Holidays. Robert is seen here with his nice trophy for winning first place with his Basic Basketball team. He is wearing his suit that Godmommy- Auntie Lillie bought him, isnt he handsome. You will see Myra and Amaria with him in photos and also the group picture of the Merriweather Inspirational Choir. My other two sons, and my nephew came up in that choir as well and the Director Auntie Steph is included in the photo. Dinah's restaurant is where we had Easter Dinner. We wanted to feel close to Mom and decided to dine there and we had a good time and it brought back memories. My hubby and his shirt is shown here and I tell you I think it is a little busy but he loves it and that is all that matter. Other family members include Gloria, Rita, Lillie, Mary (DeArthur) , Lil Richie and Wesley.

Barbara Morison Play - Howlin Blues and Dirty Dogs

Awesome play protrayed by Barbara Morrison who placed Big Mamma Thornton. I enjoyed it and was invited by my friend Brenda and we had an awesome time and I almost didnt go but I am so glad that I decided to go and as you can see here I am grinning and excited. To hang out in Hollywood was great and lots of times we will wait until we have company from out of town before we will enjoy. I actually thought we were going to see Ms. Morrison sing but the play was great and I love the Blues it actually reminded me of when I was in Memphis. I have two of Ms. Morrison CDs, Brenda bought me one and I won one as well awesome awesome!!!!!!!

Sixth Month Birthday (Hooray) April 5, 2009

My sixth month birthday was April 5, 2009. I nver had a problem with conversations but thanks to my sisterlocks my conversations have increased. My babies have reached their adolecence stage. I researched and took my time before I made the decision to join the sisterlock family and it is a decision I have not regretted till this day and dont plan to. My re-tighten session was held on April 7, 2009 and I toook these photos above. The hair is style without curlers and with two decorated hair clips. My hair is even and healthier. I am glad to have most of the perm trimmed from my life. My last perm was in April 2008 and that chapter of my life is burried. My mother Armanda Louise Dees built confidence and strong character in my sisters and myself. The sisterlocks has brought out the real Rosie that has been in me all my life. The only challenge I had was the scalp and now that my consultant recommended a great shamoo (DHS with Zinc), I consider that challenge over. I also use a dry shampoo from Organic Root Stimulator and it keeps my scalp fresh and clean. In the six months of this journey I am exercising and changing my eating habits. I have not seen a change in the scale but I feel fabulous. I thank God for allowing me to make such a beautiful change in my life. Also I thank him for the special friends and family that helped me make the decision to change.

NSBE Conference in Las Vegas March 2009

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) had a attendance of 9,000. The number is down from last year which was 10, 400 young engineers which includes the alumni and technical professional careers as well. As you can see we were not letting them go to Las Vegas alone. However, they did walk the strip and have some fun time. Volunteering was fun for us and we got paid but you can see taking the photo with Tony the Tiger was fun. We have been to the Kellog factory in Battlecreek Michigan in 2004. I am so glad because our Mom was on that family reunion. Rashaad and Wesley did attend the tracks on their own we didnt want to follow them around. We are proud of them and must keep encouraging our youth. This organization is the largest student run organization around. In 2010 the conference will be in Toronto, Canada. Not sure if we will be working since we are Department of Defense employees we will be attending some of the workshops and also networking for Mary Kay.

This was the Ushers/Nurses Fashion Show and the them was Boyz to Men. I didnt ask but let my four men know they were to participate. My oldest son, Richard III had to go to work and he still participated. My second son, Rashaad came home just in time for Spring Break. Richard III told him, "Man I didnt have a choice" he goes "Mom goes you are in the fashion show. Little Man was in the show as well and once he saw his brothers and dad in a scene he made sure he told the coordinators that he wanted to go out with his brothers and dad. I am so glad I was able to get in a scene with my King and you saw the Prince and the King in the first photo.

Robert and Myra couldnt wait to take those pictures on the pier. Robert went crazy over it because his Auntie Mary and Uncle Kent had taken him to the beach and he loves it. No his Mom does not dig the pier or the beach but I had to admit it was so cool staying afterwards having a few drinks and chilling. We had actually had dinner here with our special family friend who turned 60 and it was a nice party.

Well it has been 5 months since I started this journey and I am so excited. It took me quite some time to get started and I am so glad I had special people in my path to direct me to the Sisterlocks. Most importantly it is important to have the right consultant and I feel bless to have Karen Taylor as my consultant. It was devine how we met and I always take a book to read while she is re-tightening my hair, however each and every time I go I never get a chance to read any of my materials which means we had great conversations. The same thing happened when she put the Sisterlocks in we talked and fellowshiped for 11 hours not to leave out my family was there to ease those 11 hours. I know in the last 20 years I have never been able to walk and sit in a chair to get my hair done I have always had to wait for the shampoo bowl or the dryer. I am so thankful to Dr. JoAnne Cornwell for being the owner of Sisterlocks and spreading the love, joy and freedom I am experiencing.

If anyone knows my husband he loves Sony Electronics. Not only because they have the best darn Big Screen TV s in the West but hey they have all sorts of goodies. I appreciate it as well at least for me I get a chance to have a nice camera to put photos on my blog and a nice video camera to record those special events. I am thankful that my camera can also video as well and it is 12X and this allows me to capture our children from the Stands whether it was the oldest when he played football for El Camino College, or now Rashaad when he is performing with the University of Arkansas Pinebluff - M4 Band or Robert playing football or basketball. Most of all you can see that I am working the Sisterlocks for all occasions.

Mom loved Las Vegas and she went with Googie and I to the Federation of Eastern Stars. It was such a precious trip and she was not able to be in the sun so I would pull up in the shade and Googie would get her out the truck with an umbrella over her head. Rita didnt go she had stayed back. What a ROAD TRIP! It would be the last trip for Mom to Las Vegas. Always as I say take advantage of all moments.

Fans for the Drum Major Wesley who was

promoted from playing the symbols to the head

guy. He also continued to play in the Drumline.

This time Inglewood High placed 3rd. Any time

the Southern bands showed up from Georgia,

Inglewood High Marching Band stayed in the

race with them but would place 3rd. Remarkable

challenge considering the Southern Children start

when they are in Elementary. I witnessed that

this year in Arkansas when I saw Elementary Children

as Drum Major and playing Instruments. You see

one of the Judges which is the brother to Maurice White of Earth

Wind and Fire. I will think of his name later.
