Sisterlock's 4th Birthday

Celebrated my 4th Sisterlock Birthday on October 5, 2012.  This is just a few days past the date that my Mother would have had her 69th Birthday, had she not gone Home.  There is 20 years between  our Birthdays.  I celebrated my 49th Birthday August 28, 2012.  The Celebration will continue for my 49th Birthday with a Game Night soon.

The photo of me in the Pink Dress, I am wearing to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness and Pink is another favorite color.  I wear Pink to represent that I am an Independent Mary Kay Consultant.  I do not take my Sisterlocks for granted.  Met a young Lady yesterday and she shared a story that her Mother use to wear Sisterlocks, however, she lost them after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  My hair in this photo was sprayed for moisturizer and shine to get the look and no maintenance at all.  I LOVVVVVE IT!

Hubby and Son #3 are in their Black and Red Ties celebrating Men's Day at Church.  The fellowship is always good.  A family that prays together stays together.  Son is wearing his hair in low Afro.  My Hubby also known as my Huntsmen is wearing a full beard and I had to get use to his look but proud that he is being who he is as well.

My Sisters and Nieces are in the background at 79th and Crenshaw where it is only one of the locations my Sister Glory and I followed the Shuttle.  We are known as Shuttle Chasers (SC).  I have to say not so much because ours Sons are Members of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).  Not because my Sister, Glory have seen the Endeavor launch in Florida.  It is history and I want to be a part of anything and everything that is positive.

As the Goodwill Lady Ambassador for California I am at Traveler's Rest Church in Los Angeles where the Queen Esther Grand Chapter was invited to fellowship.  Again fellowship is always good.  Hubby does not mind escorting me if I need him.  I am wearing my scarf around my Sisterlocks and they are hanging free on their own.  I now have a special ring to hold scarves that I carefully prepare and fold before tying my Sisterlocks.

My Sisterlocks are really a blessing.  After 4 years my Sisterlocks continue to be a conversation piece.  I have two Aunts that are Baby Boomers, they have always embraced natural hair even in the 70's before I was aware of locs.  I am so thankful that they paved the way.  I am proud that I made this choice of hairstyle which is now a lifestyle for me.  Living free and enjoying life with Hubby, Sons, Family and Friends.  I have a great-nephew coming early December.  Lord just want to say I am THANNNNKFUL!

Beach Photo

At the Beach at Uncle Bill's Pancakes in Manhattan Beach.  Was excited to follow the  lesson my Cousin Fiance shared on "Hair Tying" from her Native Country.  I was pleased and honored to wear my scarf to work.  August 19, 2012 will mark my 28th year with Federal Service.  I'm not done learning, I'm not done meeting new people and most of all I'm done being me.  Having these Sisterlocks have really allowed me to see things that I didnt realize before yet I am proud to continue on the Sweetrose Journey.  I have another Sister (Spiritual) that have joined the Sisterlock Family and I'm proud of her and her beautiful new hair.  To top the day off I was able to see my Son, receive his very first coin.  I have a nice collection, however, it is an honor to see him receive his first coin at the age of 13.  What is so special about being Coined?  You should ask someone!

At Cotton Club Celebrating 30th Wedding Anniversary

Welcome to the Cotton Club where Hubby and I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary with Sons # 1, #2, and #3.  As you can see the theme was Roaring 20's and I dropped feathers everywhere.  That darn feather boa.  I loved how my Sisterlocks looked with the Handband that matched my Evening attire.  I must not forget my handsome Hubby that is matching in his lime green accessories as well.  Son #2 and #3 had no problem putting on their bow ties to get that Cotton Club look.  Son #1 has never liked any bow tie or regular tie and told us that he would wear the requested color black and white but no ties.  Close family and friends watched as we were able to show off our Ballroom Dancing skills from attending dance class since January 31, 2012.  I must end this with saying that this union was definitely a blessing from God to make it to the Pearl Anniversary.

Martin Luther King Memorial

After attending the Legislative Conference in Washington DC, the highlight of my trip was the very last day on Friday, 17 February 2012 and getting the opportunity to visit the Martin Luther King Memorial. I feel bless and special to be a part of history, come on, being born the same day that Martin Luther King gave his "I have a Dream" Speech on August 28, 1963.

Family doing the Natural Hair together

Im back, had to share the photo of my youngest son, Robert who turned 13 last month in January. I am proud of him embracing the fact he is wearing an afro. I think he would love to have brother locs because he asked how much should his hair grow. I told him just rock the afro for now.

For me I am showing a photo of me before make-up and after makeiup by wearing my beautiful throw back lipstick-fushia by Mary Kay. I had to rock the pink all the way from the lipstick to the scarf. I am showing my hair at 7 to 8 weeks and how it look when the re-tightening is needed soon. I know I am going to have a fit to sit in the chair (about 4 hours) but it saves money going 6 to 8 weeks and not monthly and I also just love the feel of my hair and seeing my natural color.

3rd Sisterlock Birthday

Celebrated my 3rd Sisterlock Birhtday on October 5, 2011. I have researched many of my family photos and found out that my Aunt Betty has always been in natural hairstyles and I didnt start when she did but she have defnitely set the tone. I am glad that I chose Sisterlocks and I am the only family member with Sisterlocks. However, many of our close family members are with natural hairstyles and I am excited and proud. The freedom has never felt better and I am contantly getting compliments which really make me feel great. I have a few friends, a co worker and spiritual Sister that have Sisterlocks and I am glad I could be an example. I chose October 5 to get Sisterlocks and it is two days after my Mom's birthdate and she would have turned 68 had she not gone home to glory.

Wealthy and Healthy

Celebrated my Birthday the same day the MLK monument was to be unveiled. Due to Hurricane Irene, the ceremony was postponed. Feeling happy to know that my Parents became parents that day with my birth, August 28,1963. Yesterday celebrated Hubby Birthday and surprised him and put on favorite dress and went to dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Batiste and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas. Could not end this month without giving a praise report on my health and how I changed a few habits and done it slowly and at my pace versus someone else's judgment. This is truly a blessing and it is so important to not judge the book by its cover. Sisterlocks have changed my life so much and it is a lifestyle i knew some day would come especially wearing braid extentions for years.
